For the last few years, fans of premium bottled water that incorporates a great, natural taste with healthy, mineral-rich ingredients, while making sustainability an important part of their platform have had a dynamic new product to go to. And they couldn’t be happier.
Launched in 2012, Waiakea Water is an all-natural water coming from crystal clear waters of Mauna Loa, the snow-capped Hawaiian volcano 14,000 feet in elevation.
Snow and rainwater flow through volcanic lava, which provides the water with essential electrolyte-packed and mineral-rich nutrients, providing a natural alkaline to the water that is essential to the healthy balance.
Potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, and other essential minerals are captured by this water flow through the lava. Noob Prenuer says that Waiakea water is extremely low in its nitrate level (.59 mg/l), giving it a superior rating from the EPA, who mandates a maximum 10 mg/l for beverages. This has enabled Waiakea to be certified Carbon Neutral, one of the first premium bottled water and beverages in the world having achieved this premier status.
The Waiakea spring provides “young water”, as it is constantly flowing. Captured in this fashion, the young water doesn’t have time to absorb as many contaminants as other bottled water brands, who may use as their source free-standing water, or water flowing over more contaminant-laden land for their products.
An added benefit of having constantly flowing young water as its product, Waiakea water is able to bring the product to market quickly after capture and bottled, taking less than 30 days.
Waiakea water sustainability is emphasized in its packaging. The company uses 100 percent recyclable, recycled polyethelene terephthalate plastic in the bottling. Their facilities use 33 percent renewable energy. Their processes have a 90 percent less carbon footprint, with 95 percent less water usage. All in all, it takes Waiakea 85 percent less energy to manufacture the product.
Waiakea has made their charitable initiatives an integral part of their platform from the day it was founded. For every liter of water sold, the company donates 650 liters to Pump Aid, which provides clean, safe water and sanitation to those in great need in Africa. Through 2015, 1.35 million people have been assisted with over 500 million liters of water having been donated.
Focusing on health, sustainability, and charitable initiatives, Waiakea water is enjoying considerable growth. It all makes for a terrific product for consumers, able to assist Waiakea to grow and continue to help those in great need around the world.
